About Us

Our salon began with a deeply personal journey: Welsy Mourino salon owner of The Modern Diosa, experiencing the shock of postpartum hair loss following her first pregnancy. Losing a significant amount of hair along her hairline was surprising, even as a stylist. Although she’d prepared with wigs, nothing could ease the feeling of seeing her hair thin so drastically. During her search for solutions, she discovered Natural Beaded Rows (NBR) extensions, which opened up a whole new world of natural, adhesive-free hair enhancements that were so realistic, they looked almost too good to be true. This discovery sparked her passion to dive deeper into the world of hair restoration and support for hair loss.

 

From that moment on, Welsy’s career took a transformative turn. In 2017, she enrolled in three different academies focused on extensions, hair loss, and restoration, allowing her to broaden her skills and gain insight into the medical side of the beauty industry. In 2020, during the pandemic and while pregnant with her second child, Welsy decided to refocus her career on what brought her the most joy: creating dramatic transformations through color, extensions, and hair restoration. It was around this time that the perfect salon space she’d admired 5 years before became available. It felt like fate. Welsy and her husband quickly secured the location at 3319 W. Cary Street and spent the next year creating a safe, welcoming space where clients could come to feel seen, supported, and transformed.

 

The Modern Diosa opened its doors in May 2022. With a zen and welcoming atmosphere, our salon is designed to be a haven for those looking to reclaim their confidence and embrace their natural beauty. We’re more than just a salon—we’re a sanctuary for anyone seeking hair loss solutions and gorgeous, natural-looking hair enhancements. Whether you’re looking to add length, volume, or simply enhance your natural beauty, The Modern Diosa has you covered. Our services include a range of extension methods tailored to each individual, such as I-tips, K-tips, V-light, Modern Tape-ins Methods , Loc Extensions and three variations of beaded methods.​​

 

Our journey doesn’t stop here. In 2025, Welsy, along with Christy and Jontel, will be pursuing trichology certifications to deepen our expertise in hair and scalp health. We’re also proud to have Christy as our in-house trichotillomania care specialist, offering a unique level of support for clients facing their hair-pulling disorders. Our team’s personal experiences with hair loss allow us to genuinely understand the journey of regrowth and restoration.

In addition, we’ve recently expanded our offerings to include loc extensions, braiding, silk press, crochet extensions, and sister/brother locks.
